Nikolaos Karousos

Dr. Nikos Karousos holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras (Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics), an MSc in “Specialization in Computer Science and Technology” from the same department, and a PhD in Service-Oriented Architectures and Hypermedia. Since 2026, he has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management Science and Technology at the University of Patras.

From 2010 to 2026, he worked at the Hellenic Open University as Coordinator of the University’s Internal Evaluation Unit. During this period, he participated as a senior engineer in the design and implementation of an integrated internal evaluation and reporting system. He has extensive experience in software analysis, design, and development, both from technical and managerial perspectives. Earlier in his career, he co-founded the software company “Options OE,” where he worked for six years as Technical Director on various software projects. He has also participated as a freelance professional in more than 20 projects and worked for six years at the Computer Technology Institute and Press ‘Diophantus’ as a senior engineer. Several of these projects were research initiatives funded at national or European level.

As a faculty member in higher education, Dr. Karousos has taught for more than 18 years at institutions including the University of Patras, the Hellenic Open University, the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece, and the Technological Educational Institute of Mesolongi. His teaching focuses mainly on databases, application development, information systems, and software engineering. He currently teaches “Software Engineering” and “Databases” at the Hellenic Open University in distance learning programs.

His research interests include the World Wide Web, hypermedia systems, Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL), Service-Oriented Architecture, and Human-Computer Interaction. He has co-authored numerous scientific papers published in international conferences, book chapters, and academic journals.
